In the Midlands

As Monday was a Bank Holiday and the weather was good we had a lazy day with a swim in the afternoon.

Tuesday saw us heading to  National Trust hhouse and garden called Berrington, Herefordshire. It's a Georgian house sitting in 'Capability' Brown's landscape and gardens. It was created as a country retreat more than 230 years ago for a city banker and business man, Thomas Harley.

The interior was very spectacular.

Wandering through the house there were a couple of rooms where you were able to try on clothing from the period of the house. As you've guessed I was the 'guinea pig'!!!

The interior and stories depicted the life at the time but I wasn't impressed with this extract:

During the great war this family saw 3 of their 4 sons killed. There was even a telegram from Buckingham Palace offering condolences!

We had a good walk around the gardens and parkland before heading back for a swim and sundowners! Unfortunately there is a cool wind blowing so no lounging about in swimmers.

On Thursday we headed out to another National Trust house, Dudmaston in Shropshire. This house has been a family home for over 875 years and there were signs, photos etc, of the family who presently live there. Unfortunately no dressing up or taking photos inside!

Well the sun was shining!
The gardens were lovely so we enjoyed a walk through them.

On Friday Kerry arrived - the plane was delayed in Sydney for 4 hours, then she landed in London to a train strike, had to catch a bus for Heathrow to Birmingham airport where we were able to pick her up. Needles to say a shower and G&T were the needed 'pick me up'!

Saturday was another travel day as we headed to Swanage in Dorset, where my sister had organised a four night stay. We can see the sea from the apartment and are close to everything. We had a lovely dinner overlooking the sea, can you believe it's England and we are sitting outside to eat! It was a beautiful sunset too!

Today we have lasted on sunloungers at the beach! Even went in the sea, it was a bit cool but it's the first time I have been in the sea or on a beach in England for over 25 years!
