Train to Copenhagen!

My last day in Stockholm was spent, for a large part of the day, in the ABBA museum! You can truly spend hours there. One thing I did realise was that I really don't/ didn' like the song 'Waterloo'. I know they won the Eurovision with it, way back when, but it's awful!

I did wander 'off piste' at one stage and came across .... snow!
They said the temperature was 6 but felt like -2C! B $%%& cold in anyone's book. That's, obviously, why there is so much grit on the pavement!

I always check out the stations before I travel so that I make it to the correct platform at the correct time! As I  was heading to Copenhagen I knew exactly where I was going, down the escalator to the platform. Feeling a bit conscious of the fact that I have a wheelie bag and a broken wrist, which makes holding on difficult, I take my time. This time however I  was safely on when the, shall I  say stupid, girl who got on after me let her case go! It caught me in the back of the leg but luckily I  stayed standing, it then crashed to the bottom of the escalator! I would have like to give her some advice in 'french' but realised my responsibility as an Oz to behave with decorum! She said "It fell off!" 'French' words came to mind!

Copenhagen was a  5 hour journey! I remembered from my childhood/ youth that railway stations were good for food etc. Stockholm didn't disappoint! If only we had bakeries like this in cities/town's in Oz - don't  worry about the stations!
The bread is so tasty, black bread in particular and then there are the pastries!!! I bought a sandwich to have on the train even though it had a Bistro selling food and drink - wine and beer was available! The train seat was spacious and comfortable.

We travelled through countryside of pine and silver birch forests, with numerous lakes and rivers passing tiny villages or the occasional big town. All was well until we reached Malmo when we were told this train is no longer going to Copenhagen - a quick intake of breath was suddenly relaxed when we were told to go to platform 2 for the train to Copenhagen.
I followed the crowd, hoping that they are going to where I'm going!

Finally on the train we crossed 'The Bridge' - remember that great series? - to reach Copenhagen.
Pretty spectacular when you realise the 8km track/ road was built in 5 years and was finished 3 months early - and they say they can't cut through the escarpment to make a faster link between the Gong and Sydney!!!!

Arriving in Copenhagen I put my hotel into my maps and it said that I  was 43 minutes walk away. I thought that was a bit strange as I always plan to be close to the station! I decided to get a taxi. Got comfy in the car as the driver punched in the address. "Are you sure you want me to drive you as it's less than half a km?" He said. Out I got and followed his direction - realised I was heading in wrong direction so turned around! Unfortunately Copenhagen is bike mad! There were hundreds parked on the pavement allowing very little room for pedestrians. They are also terrifying on the bike lanes as they speed by - unlike the bike lanes in the Gong, hundreds are peddling by on all sorts of contraptions! By the time I arrived at the hotel I was silently suffering from path rage, bike rage and people rage - a G&T soon sorted that out!

I spent to day on the hop on/off bus and a boat trip around the city. Checked out Mary and Fred's place.

There are some really beautiful places.

Although it's warmer here than Stockholm the temperature was still lower than I  expected!
